Years ago, inspired by the children's book, Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown, Dale Hubert created the Official Flat Stanley Project. That original project with paper flats traveling the world over (and even into SPACE) has now evolved into a 21st century version @ www.flatstanley.com. Now you are able to snap and send photos of flats - by way of an app - in mere seconds!
I love technology. However, the part I loved about the original Stanley story was how he could just fold up and travel in his envelope to visit his friends in California. That's why we still go with "old school" paper flats in our classroom and we write about their travels as we "live" with them through the year.
Although the students make their own personal versions, Flat Stan and Flat Kate belong to Ms. Bailey. During the year they go wherever the class goes. Whenever school is out they like to tag along with Ms. Bailey on her travels and have some adventures of their own!
(She forgot to tell them she was going to see the whales in Alaska one summer, so now they keep a REALLY sharp eye on her!!!)
They were very excited about the May field trip...click this button below to see why!
